COUNTY
OF
CORNWALL

The ORDER of The Revd. ROBERT WALKER and The Revd. RICHARD BULLER two of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in and for the said County, one whereof is of the Quorum, and both residing next unto the Limits of the parish Church, within the Parish of Saint Cleer in the said County, made the Fourth Day of March in the Third Year of the Reign of his said Majesty King George the Fourth concerning a male Bastard Child, lately born in the Parish of Saint Cleer aforesaid, of the Body of JANE HAMBLY single Woman.

WHEREAS it hath appeared unto us the said justices, as well upon the complaint of the churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the said parish of Saint Cleer as upon the oath of the said JANE HAMBLY that she the said JANE HAMBLY on the Twenty first day of January now last past, was delivered of a male bastard child in the Parish of Saint Cleer aforesaid, and that the said bastard child is chargeable to the said Parish of Saint Cleer and further that JOHN LAUNDRY did beget the said bastard child on the body of her the said JANE HAMBLY

And whereas it hath further appeared unto us the said justices that the reasonable charges and expences, incident to the birth of the said bastard child, amount to the sum of Two Pounds and that the reasonable costs of apprehending and securing the said JOHN LAUNDRY together with the costs of the order of filiation amount to the further sum of Ten shillings the same having been duly ascertained before us the said justices, on the oath of RICHARD SIBLEY one of the Overseers of the poor of the parish of Saint Cleer aforesaid.

And whereas the said JOHN LAUNDRY hath appeared before us in pursuance of our Summons for that purpose but hath not shown any sufficient cause why he the said JOHN LAUNDRY shall not be the reputed Father of the said bastard child.

We therefore upon examination of the cause and circumstances of the premises, as well upon the oath of the said JANE HAMBLY as otherwise, do hereby adjudge him the said JOHN LAUNDRY to be the reputed father of the said bastard child; and do hereby allow the same sum of Two Pounds for the said charges and expences, and the sum of Ten shillings for the said costs ascertained as aforesaid, to have been incurred by the said overseers of the said parish of Saint Cleer in respect of the said Bastard Child.

And thereupon we do order, as well for the better relief of the said parish of Saint Cleer as for the sustentation and relief of the said bastard child, that the said JOHN LAUNDRY shall and do forthwith, upon notice of this our order, pay or cause to be paid to the overseers of the poor of the said parish of Saint Cleer or to some or one of them, the said sums of Two pounds and ten shillings for and towards the said charges, expences, and costs; and the further sum of Four shillings for the maintenance of the said bastard child, to the time of making this our order.

And we do hereby further order, that the said JOHN LAUNDRY shall likewise pay or cause to be paid to the churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the said parish of Saint Cleer for the time being, or to some or one of them, the sum of two shillings weekly and every week, from the present time, for and towards the keeping sustentation, and maintenance of the said bastard child, for and during so long time as the said bastard child shall be chargeable to the said parish of Saint Cleer.

As we do further order, that the said JANE HAMBLY shall also pay or cause to be paid to the said churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the said parish of Saint Cleer for the time being, or to some or one of them, the sum of one shilling weekly, and every week, so long as the said bastard child shall be chargeable to the said parish of Saint Cleer in case she shall not nurse and take care of the said child herself.

Given under our hands and seals the day and year first above written
